Merry Christmas, and MC 5.3 is here!

Merry Christmas guys! It’s my favorite time of the year even though I’m not Christian – I mean who can resist the Christmas trees, the carols, the reindeer! (Goofy, wacky grin right here). And it also signifies that the year’s ending, so we can leave behind all our worries and stride into the next year and start afresh! (Well, one can hope, right!)

Anyway, I won’t chatter much and give you guys the news: MC v5.3 is here!

I wish I didn’t have to number it so… I haven’t added any new features. It’s just MangaFox that works; I could spare only an hour so it was the most I could do… But I indeed have fixed the trailing .tokenxyz issue that was present, and hopefully you guys will find that the images are named in a more consistent fashion.

But I hope you can find the mangas you want on MangaFox for now, and I will incrementally work on the other sites and release in a couple of weeks or so (I’m all booked for the New Years’ weekend, sorry fellas!).

So Merry Christmas guys, and this Santa brings y’all MC v5.3 🙂

MangaCrazy Problems

I know. I know I promised that a new MangaCrazy version would be out for Christmas, and I know you guys have been facing a lot of problems recently. There have been a lot of changes going around (Java 8, Windows 10 problems, Internet problems, you name it). My inbox is flooded with mails, both appreciation ones and panicked ones (!!), and the list of pending comments here in WordPress is overwhelming.

So I’m sorry, I just can’t reply to you all individually. I just hope that you drop by my blog again and see this, my answers to your questions.

  1. If MC is not running, PLEASE CHECK FAQ. I don’t mean to sound harsh, but there is a reason I created that page. Because. It’s got to be the MOST Frequently Asked Question here 😛
  2. Batoto. My nemesis >_< With every released version I update the code for Batoto and then it works… till it doesn’t. Right now they have thrown me a curve-ball and I have to do a lot of figuring out. If you are interested to know, here’s the basics: I fetch Manga images from the html code, but now Batoto fetches content via ajax so a lot of stuff needs to be changed.
  3. If you cannot download chapters from Mangafox and it shows unrelated error, I suggest you go to the site and open the chapter that’s failing. I noticed that some Mangas are licensed and hence not available anymore in certain regions, and that is not something MC is able to overcome at this moment. If it’s not so, I suggest you try downloading after a while, one chapter a time. It might just be a network issue.
  4. Will I add (INSERT_SITE_NAME_HERE) to MC? Well now that you posed the question, I now am aware of the site and if possible, will try and add it in a future release 🙂
  5. Similarly, will I add (INSERT_FEATURE_SUGGESTION_HERE) to MC? I have to say this, thank you for your idea(s), I really appreciate your suggestions. I may add it to MC (as I have done previously too) if it fits 🙂
  6. The link to MC v5.1 does lead to MC v5.1 even though the title says v5.0. I had released that hurriedly and forgot to change the text!

Since my classes started again and my coursework pile is growing at an alarming rate, I’m not able to give MC much time, and so changes are taking place at tortoise-pace. But, honestly, I will try to release the next version as soon as possible 🙂

Thank you for using MC, folks; and btw Geekista has had over 114,000 hits. When did THAT happen?!

Cheers,

Geekista

Throwback Thursday (and 30000 hits!)

Geekista now has had 30k hits! The number of his has doubled in mere months, and I’m still amazed and ecstatic that MangaCrazy has attracted so many people.(I’m in no illusions that folks land here just to read my posts… And I don’t blog that frequently either to gather a large following.) And if my program has made people happy, it makes my geeky heart happier still. So thank you,  once again, for using MangaCrazy, and for writing such wonderful words of encouragement as well as suggestions!

MangaCrazy has come a long way… You can see that for yourself!
It began like this…

image

You had to go to Mangafox, open a chapter, copy the first image’s URL and paste here, enter the number of pages and then hit submit. Phew!

Then came this…

As an improvement, you had to enter the chapter link. The interface was so… Meh 😀 And it supported only Mangafox.

Then came the huge jump…

This layout stuck for a while, and had many versions. Supporting other sites, adding compression options, choosing download location, tracking downloaded manga chapters, so on. Sample:

The next visible change came in the form of…

The current version looks like this one!

Doesn’t the growth remind of this? 😀

evolution-of-man

The journey has been thrilling so far, and there are many improvements that are in the works. I’m not going to show any spoiler pictures, but expect lots of changes in the next version!

Happy Throwback Thursday!

Todo: Resolve Batoto errors (and 15000+ hits!)

I’ve been hearing from a lot of people that download is not taking place successfully if Batoto is selected as the preferred location. And that Batoto has changed its images’ domain. Thank you, guys, for reporting this to me, and for using MangaCrazy in the first place! I’m sort of lost at the moment because of personal reasons, but I promise I’ll make time and fix this bug atleast, this weekend (too many stuff stacked, but I’ll do it!))

So till then, please have patience! And do keep an eye out for the next version that’ll come out next week! (I’ll do it! \m/ )

Cheers

P.s. And I just noticed this, but Geekista’s had more than 15000 visitors at this point! I’m speechless! Thank you so much guys! *Feels more motivated than ever*

Mangacrazy v3.5 – A fresh UI, and revamped algorithm

Lo and behold, version 3.5 is here! I’m sorry for the late update… Not sure if you know, but I am 2 months into my new (and first) job, away from home, and working for almost 12 hours ( 😥 ). Gone are the carefree college days. There is one perk though: I’m spending my time coding; I’m getting paid for something I love to do. So Geekista is mollified.

Back to the topic, this upgrade is very, very essential. There was a major assumption in my search algorithm, which sometimes selected the wrong manga. It’s fixed now, let me assure you. Thanks, Nahla, for pointing it out! I also want to thank all the others who left such wonderful, encouraging comments and took time to mail me, and mentioned me on Twitter! They really make my day.

I have also played with the UI a bit. I have not changed the color/theme in order to keep the interface familiar, but hopefully it will feel smoother now. So if you use MangaCrazy, thank you so much, but please get this latest version!

As usual, the file size is ~110KB. The download link is present in the main download page, and on the sidebar. Happy Manga downloading!

[Note: After seeing that some of you are interested, I have enabled elaborate error messages in the console. So if you run the application from there, you would be able to find out exactly what went wrong. And I’ll be extremely grateful if you reported those messages to me so that I’ll be able to fix them too. Thank you!]

Getting BACK into the game!

‘Back’ into the game? So where was I till now?

Well, I was (and still am) doing some of the few crappy things all final year under-grads seem to HAVE to do. That includes job-hunting, the very important Final Year Project, a bit of soul-searching, and contemplating sanyaas (look that up, will you?). But every now and then I’d get comments about MangaCrazy, my crazy little Manga Downloader (be it compliments or bug reports) that would set my heart a-flutter. That my little code is roaming the world, REALLY makes me feel ecstatic!

So I finally sat down to examine my code (I haven’t touched it since February, I think. Life truly did intrude…) and guess what. It’s a mess.

There are portions of codes from previous versions that I’d just improvised, and they’re truly dragging down the downloader. There is un-optimized code everywhere, which I, with my programmer-pride, refused to see/acknowledge. But now with a fresh perspective, they truly stand out and make my head hurt. And I haven’t even gotten to fixing the bugs part yet!

So while I re-acquaint myself with the 3000 odd lines of crazy code, please keep on reporting bugs so that I come up with a mega-upgraded version! And once again, really, thank you for downloading MangaCrazy! God knows I’m not affiliated to BrotherSoft or CNet or anything (I don’t think the program has that kinda ‘status’ aka I haven’t mustered the courage to put the program there 😛 ). So it’s an honor that you trust me, or the program J

Oh, and I think I should let you know… (Since it IS a blog and not everything in Geekista is about MangaCrazy!)

  1. I got a job offer
  2. I was instrumental in revamping my college’s blog and it was a smashing hit!
  3. I’m gonna vote this year (finally!)
  4. My final semesters haven’t gotten over yet and this is me multitasking in the gap between 2 papers

As Sherlock Holmes would say, “The game is afoot!”

Cheers,

Geekista
